Last night, I spoke before the City Council about my concerns regarding the growing homeless encampments in and around our community.

As a private investigator for nearly 28 years and Bounty Hunter for 22 years, I have spent time in homeless encampments throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley and have seen firsthand the challenges associated with homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, and crime. Based on that experience, I am concerned by what I am now seeing in Simi Valley.

Because this issue has been brought to the forefront, I know that law enforcement is taking steps to address some of the immediate concerns. While those efforts are important and necessary, they will not solve the problem long term. We cannot continue moving homeless individuals from one location to another and expect the problem to go away.

I am committed to working with law enforcement, city leaders, service providers, and residents to identify practical, long-term solutions that protect public safety while addressing the underlying causes of homelessness.

I have also learned that some homeless individuals are coming into Simi Valley from Los Angeles and surrounding communities. That should concern all of us. If we fail to address this issue now, it will only become more difficult and costly to manage in the future.

This issue will not be solved overnight, but ignoring it is not an option. Simi Valley deserves leadership that is willing to address difficult challenges, protect our quality of life, and work toward real solutions.
